
LA - USC Trojans star running back Joe McKnight will miss Sat.'s Emerald Bowl game, according to boss coach Pete Carroll. The 1,000-yard rusher is under NCAA enquiry for driving a $27,000 SUV that belongs to a Santa Monica businessman. 'That investigation has zilch to do with this,' asserted Carroll. 'Joe just failed to get his mom and dad to sign the permission slip to go to San Francisco with the team to the Emerald Bowl by the cut-off point, so he needs to stay home.' Carroll also addressed 3 other Trojans who did not make the trip. 'Tight end Anthony McCoy's grandmother is in the town, right tackle Tyron Smith had a previous commitment to serve food at a soup kitchen and defensive tackle Averell Spicer has chicken pox,' Carroll said.
